Macquarie and La Caisse forge partnership to scale Indian toll road network

Macquarie Asset Management has acquired a stake in Maple Infrastructure Trust from global investment group La Caisse, forming a joint controlling partnership to accelerate the expansion of India’s road infrastructure. The deal, finalized September 11, pairs Macquarie’s operational expertise with La Caisse’s established footprint in the region.

The transaction involves a $450 million capital commitment from Macquarie’s Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Fund 4, with $150 million specifically earmarked for future asset acquisitions. La Caisse has matched that $150 million commitment, signaling a shared intent to grow the platform that currently manages 3,328 lane kilometres across six Indian states. Established in 2021, Maple has grown from a single-asset entry into a significant road platform, now operating seven toll roads under long-term concessions.

Verena Lim, Co-Head of Asia-Pacific Infrastructure at Macquarie, noted that the investment underscores the group’s long-term conviction in the Indian market, particularly as rising vehicle ownership and mobility needs demand higher-quality transport infrastructure. Emmanuel Jaclot, Executive Vice-President at La Caisse, described the partnership as a vote of confidence in the platform’s trajectory, marking a new chapter for the venture as it seeks to address India’s expanding infrastructure requirements.
