The partnership follows a successful feasibility study where Prolight analyzed 260 patient samples derived from BRAINBox’s HeadSMART II pivotal trial. Testing confirmed the Pyros system’s ability to detect biomarkers at single-digit nanogram-per-liter concentrations using only a single drop of blood. CEO Donna J. Edmonds stated that the alliance supports a strategy to deploy neurology diagnostics across varied environments, ranging from ambulances to nursing homes.
BRAINBox Solutions Secures Pyros Device Supply for Concussion Testing
Richmond-based BRAINBox Solutions has finalized a supply agreement with Prolight Diagnostics to integrate the Pyros platform into its point-of-care concussion diagnostic systems. This move aims to transition the company’s TBI prognostic tests from clinical trials to broad, decentralized medical settings including emergency departments and athletic facilities.

Beyond hardware integration, BRAINBox is aggressively expanding its intellectual property. The company recently filed international patents targeting the differentiation of acute and chronic traumatic brain injury in geriatric patients from other neurodegenerative conditions. By combining proprietary blood biomarker panels with digital neurocognitive assessments, the firm aims to establish a new clinical standard for evaluating concussion severity and guiding patient interventions.
