Six former winners and runners-up take the stage at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre on Sunday, October 4, for an all-star edition of the Best in Drag Show. The pageant parody, a staple of the city's queer culture for over three decades, serves as a high-stakes fundraiser for APLA Health.
APLA Health CEO Craig E. Thompson emphasized the urgency of the fundraiser, noting that as traditional funding streams for HIV care face mounting threats, the event’s proceeds provide direct support for food and housing. Under the direction of John Carlos Frey and hosted by Patrick Rush, the production relies on a volunteer-led team to bridge the gap between theatrical comedy and critical social services. With tickets currently on sale, organizers expect the evening to reflect the show’s legacy of combining irreverent humor with the practical goal of ensuring dignity for those served by the organization’s eight health centers.
