51Talk Reports Revenue Growth Amid AI-Driven Product Expansion

Singapore-based 51Talk Online Education Group reported a 58.8% surge in net revenues for the second quarter of 2026, reaching US$32.4 million. Despite the top-line growth, the company continues to navigate operational losses while ramping up investment in AI-powered content and sales infrastructure to scale its global English education platform.

Gross billings hit US$39.3 million for the quarter, marking a 38.1% year-over-year increase and outperforming internal guidance. The company’s active student base grew significantly, reaching 138,100, up from 91,300 in the same period last year. Jack Jiajia Huang, founder and CEO, attributed the momentum to robust demand in key markets and the July 1 launch of "Global Communicator," an AI-generated learning product developed with Oxford University Press.

Financial performance remains a balancing act. While operating cash inflow reached US$4.9 million, total operating expenses rose to US$26.0 million, driven by aggressive sales and marketing efforts. The company narrowed its quarterly net loss to US$3.1 million, compared to US$3.5 million in the prior-year period. Management plans to focus on efficient capital allocation for the remainder of 2026, aiming to convert recent volume growth into long-term profitability.
