Vitamin Angels Targets 477 Million People in Five-Year Nutrition Push

The organization estimates this effort will shield 10 million individuals from malnutrition, prevent 360,000 child deaths, and curb infectious disease risks for another 300,000 children under age five. The plan arrives as international health data reveals that 150.2 million children globally are affected by stunting, while nearly one in three women between ages 15 and 49 suffer from anemia.

President and CEO Ana Céspedes stated that the strategy represents an evolution in how the nonprofit engages with local governments. Rather than merely supplying supplements, Vitamin Angels intends to embed itself in nine priority nations to bolster local supply chains, financing, and policy frameworks. This 'Pathway to Impact' model relies on a monitoring system designed to adapt interventions to specific regional needs, whether through multiple micronutrient supplementation for pregnant women or deworming programs for young children.

Board Chair Jim Hamilton emphasized that the 2030 roadmap is an attempt to translate long-term institutional knowledge into sustainable, country-led health systems. By focusing on implementation science, the group aims to bridge the gap between existing, affordable nutrition interventions and the populations currently lacking access.
