Bladex Secures $1 Billion Loan for Republic of Panama
With a record-breaking $1 billion senior loan, the Panama-based multinational bank Bladex has provided the Republic of Panama with a significant injection of capital. The transaction, coordinated through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, marks the largest structured financing effort ever undertaken by the institution in its home country.

Since its inception in 1979, Bladex has evolved from a regional initiative by Latin American central banks into a publicly traded powerhouse on the New York Stock Exchange. The bank operates across the Americas, with a footprint spanning from Brazil and Argentina to a New York agency. This latest credit facility serves to diversify Panama’s funding sources, leveraging Bladex’s deep institutional ties to state-owned banks and private investors across 23 countries in the region.
