Cambridge Expands '4-Minute Community' With Mass CPR Training
On September 17, 2026, the Cambridge Fire Department and Avive Solutions will host a public training event at the Smith Campus Center in Harvard Square. The initiative seeks to bolster the city's '4-Minute Community' program, which equips volunteers with connected defibrillators to bridge the gap before professional emergency responders arrive.
This event builds on an existing infrastructure of nearly 380 connected AEDs already distributed across Cambridge, including 326 units installed by MIT. By embedding these devices and trained personnel throughout neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces, city officials intend to normalize bystander intervention. Representatives from the Fire Department and local medical services will remain on-site to oversee the instruction, ensuring that the collaboration between campus responders and city emergency crews remains seamless. Organizers view this as a pivotal step toward ensuring that rapid, life-saving intervention becomes a standard expectation for any cardiac emergency within city limits.
