Instead, the alliance is focused on creating policies that allow for flexible, demand-responsive operations. By adjusting computing activity based on grid constraints, these facilities may eventually support, rather than strain, system reliability.
GridUnity Joins AI Energy Management Alliance to Modernize Grid Access
As electricity demand from AI data centers threatens to outpace current utility infrastructure, Summit-based GridUnity has joined the newly formed AI Energy Management Alliance. The company will serve as a founding board member, bridging the gap between tech giants and grid operators to standardize flexible power usage.

GridUnity CEO Brian Fitzsimons noted that his firm will leverage its existing role as the system of record for most U.S. Regional Transmission Owners and Independent System Operators to ensure these goals become actionable. The company’s task centers on moving from policy to practice, providing the transparent data and repeatable evaluation methods necessary for utilities to approve flexible connections at scale. The AEMA initiative builds on the framework of the Advanced Energy Management Alliance, which has navigated demand-side policy since 2014, now pivoting to address the specific infrastructure requirements of the artificial intelligence sector.
