Trove Turns Digital Card Collecting Into Head-to-Head Competition

Two collectors open digital packs in real-time, but only the one who unveils the more valuable card walks away with the entire haul. This winner-take-all dynamic defines Pack Battles, a new multiplayer mode launched by the collectibles platform Trove to gamify the experience of trading authenticated cards.

Trove Turns Digital Card Collecting Into Head-to-Head Competition

The feature replicates the childhood ritual of comparing pulls, now applied to digitized versions of physical cards stored in the PSA Vault. When a user initiates a battle, they face either a friend or a random opponent. The system compares the market value of the revealed items, awarding both cards to the winner. In the event of a tie, each participant retains their original pull.

Michael Katz, co-founder and CEO of Trove, frames the update as an attempt to capture the social stakes of physical collecting. Beyond the immediate competition, the app tracks leaderboard standings and offers TroveCash rewards to incentivize frequent play. The feature is currently exclusive to the iOS app, though the company plans to expand access to web browsers in the near future. The platform continues to support major categories including Pokémon, One Piece, and professional sports, maintaining the option for users to request physical delivery of their vaulted items.
