The effort, spearheaded by the Daniels Fund and Project Play Colorado, drew 4,400 individual donations bolstered by $2 million in matching and incentive grants. These funds are earmarked for equipment, uniforms, and facility improvements to ensure children have consistent access to sports programming. The initiative also introduced the America250 Fund this year, a targeted $250,000 match designed to capture contributions from donor-advised funds and IRA rollovers.
Despite Colorado’s youth participation rate of 64.5 percent—which currently leads the national Healthy People 2030 target—significant demographic gaps persist. Data from the 2023–24 National Survey of Children's Health highlights that youth from low-income households participate at a rate of 46.5 percent, nearly 30 points lower than their peers in high-income brackets. Furthermore, participation among youth of color and those with disabilities continues to lag behind the state average.
