The documentary pulls back the curtain on the supply chain of Home Trends & Design, moving from the quarries and foundries of Rajasthan, India, to the company’s home base in Austin. By focusing on the physical reality of manufacturing, Gordy highlights the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and modern design often hidden from the consumer. Festival Director Ali Alkhafaji and his panel selected the film for its unique look at an industry rarely documented with such technical transparency.
Documentary Rooted in Craft Wins Top Prize at Austin Spotlight Festival
Director Richard Gordy’s exploration of artisanal furniture production, Rooted in Craft, secured the Best Documentary award at the 2026 Austin Spotlight Film Festival. The film, which captures the raw labor behind handmade goods, received the honor on September 12 during the event's milestone tenth-anniversary season in Texas.

Beyond the screen, the recognition serves as a platform for the company’s philanthropic arm, the Mango Foundation. Having spent a decade focused on reforestation, the foundation is now pivoting toward new sustainability goals, including the development of clean drinking water access in the regions where its artisans operate. This win arrives as the organization transitions into its next chapter of community-focused environmental stewardship.
