Twenty-two researchers whose work has fundamentally reshaped modern science—from GLP-1 obesity treatments to precision gene editing—were named Citation Laureates by Clarivate today. Selected by the Institute for Scientific Information, these individuals represent an elite group whose highly cited papers frequently precede formal Nobel recognition.
Since the program launched in 2002, 89 Citation Laureates have gone on to receive Nobel Prizes, solidifying the list as a key indicator of scientific influence. To identify these researchers, ISI analysts sifted through over 67 million indexed articles, selecting only those whose foundational papers rank in the top 0.02% of their respective fields. The honorees are based at institutions across seven countries, with the majority of the 2026 class conducting their research at laboratories in the United States.
