Ona Therapeutics Licenses WuXi XDC Technology for Cancer Drug Development

Ona Therapeutics has secured an exclusive global license for WuXi XDC’s proprietary WuXiTecan-2 payload-linker technology. This partnership aims to accelerate the development of a first-in-class antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) designed to tackle treatment-resistant cancers by leveraging specialized chemistry and manufacturing support from the Shanghai-based CRDMO.

The agreement marks a deepening relationship between the two companies, serving as their second collaboration in the ADC sector. Under the terms, Ona Therapeutics will integrate its target discovery capabilities with the WuXiTecan-2 platform to develop a candidate against a single, undisclosed target. The financial arrangement includes an upfront payment, milestone-based fees tied to development and regulatory progress, and tiered royalties on future net sales.

WuXi XDC will provide comprehensive chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC) services to shepherd the program toward clinical trials. Jimmy Li, CEO of WuXi XDC, noted that the platform has secured two licensing deals within six months, citing the technology's hydrophilic linker as a key factor in enhancing ADC stability. Valerie Vanhooren, CEO of Ona Therapeutics, stated that the partnership builds on a foundation established in 2024, providing the technical infrastructure necessary to advance their pipeline of precision-engineered therapeutics.
