Participants earn digital credentials through online micro-courses, with top performers invited to immersive, in-person training sessions in Abu Dhabi.
Special Olympics Launches Global Academy to Train 6,000 Educators
To address a persistent global gap in specialized teacher training, the Special Olympics Global Center for Inclusion in Education has launched the Unified Champion Schools Inclusion Academy. The initiative aims to equip 6,000 educators worldwide with practical, competency-based tools for fostering inclusive classroom and sports environments by 2030.
Developed by curriculum experts and learning scientists, the program integrates research with lived experiences shared by youth leaders and athletes. This builds upon the broader Unified Champion Schools foundation, which has already engaged over 1 million young people and supported more than 3,000 schools. The project is supported by the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity, which pledged $11 million in 2025 to scale these efforts. Special Olympics Chairman Dr. Timothy Shriver noted that the academy seeks to empower educators to use the unifying potential of sport to create environments where every student belongs.
