Lockheed Martin Accelerates AIM-260 Missile Production

The partnership marks a core component of the Department of War’s Acquisition Transformation Strategy, a multi-decade reform effort designed to modernize procurement timelines. By establishing a foundation for a multiyear procurement contract, the agreement seeks to provide long-term demand signals that stabilize and grow production capacity for the JATM program. Lockheed Martin plans to leverage internal investments to drive these manufacturing increases, ensuring the missiles are ready for deployment on platforms including the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.

Tim Cahill, president of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, noted that the initiative focuses on delivering advanced combat systems at the speed required by the current security environment. Beyond domestic use, the program has already garnered international interest; Australia recently committed nearly 736 million dollars to incorporate the missile into the Royal Australian Air Force fleet. This foreign investment serves to enhance interoperability between the United States and its allies, reinforcing a unified approach to global air deterrence.
