Bentonville Breaks Ground on Massive AWSOM Whole Health Campus
The Alice L. Walton Foundation and Mercy have officially broken ground on a 120-acre health care complex in Bentonville, Arkansas. Designed as a destination for the Heartland, the project integrates specialty medical services with a whole-person approach to wellness, backed by a significant $50 million pledge from the Tyson family.
Beyond the initial center, the project envisions a sprawling footprint exceeding 3 million square feet. Future developments include a dedicated oncology center and a hospital featuring over 250 beds and 40 operating rooms. By aligning with the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine and the Heartland Whole Health Institute, the campus seeks to combine clinical treatment with therapeutic landscapes and evidence-based design to prioritize long-term patient well-being. The facility will operate on a hub-and-spoke model, leveraging virtual care to extend specialized expertise to rural communities across the region.
