Sun Life U.S. Secures Sixth Consecutive Hartford Top Workplace Honor

For the sixth year in a row, the Hartford Courant has named Sun Life U.S. one of the city's top workplaces. The recurring recognition highlights the financial services firm’s efforts to blend a purpose-driven corporate culture with flexible, hybrid scheduling and specialized employee support programs.

The company’s local footprint in the iconic Gold Building at 1 Financial Plaza serves as a hub for this strategy, which emphasizes both professional growth and personal well-being. Tammi Wortham, senior vice president of Human Resources, noted that the firm prioritizes an environment where staff feel valued, pointing to high retention as a byproduct of their focus on meaningful work. This approach has gained broader national attention, with similar workplace accolades earned from outlets including the Boston Globe and the Kansas City Business Journal.

Beyond traditional benefits, the organization has moved to differentiate itself through specialized offerings. These include a comprehensive paid family and medical leave program, periodic sabbaticals, and, as of 2025, company-provided menopause benefits. Inclusion remains a central pillar of the firm’s strategy, managed through eight internal networks such as the Asian Alliance, Sun Life Pride, and the Veteran's Engagement Team. These groups aim to foster collaboration and belonging among the more than 8,300 employees currently operating across the United States.
