The organization, founded by the Water Environment Federation, Amazon, The Water Center at the University of Pennsylvania, and Leading Utilities of the World, now counts Veolia, WaterISAC, the Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturer's Association, and the Rural Community Assistance Partnership among its collaborators. This group is tasked with integrating tech hyperscalers and local water authorities to address sustainability challenges, including data center cooling and the modernization of plant operations.
Water-AI Nexus Expands Advisory Council and Training Programs
As Climate Week NYC begins, the Water-AI Nexus™ Center of Excellence has marked its first anniversary by onboarding four major industry organizations to its advisory council. The expansion signals a broader push to reconcile the massive water requirements of AI infrastructure with the practical needs of municipal utility providers.
To support this transition, the Center has released a suite of foundational reports and educational tools. These include guidelines for data center siting and water usage effectiveness, alongside a framework for managing AI’s impact on utility labor. Frontline operators can now access a 1.5-hour digital literacy course through the organization’s resource hub, providing training on predictive leak detection and automated reporting. Throughout this week in New York, representatives from the coalition are scheduled to participate in a series of panels on circular water economics and corporate water positivity.
