The City of Montréal initiated the project with a mandate to build a climate-resilient neighborhood, requiring a comparative analysis of design concepts before final specifications were set. Tasked with providing whole-life carbon insights, AECOM integrated One Click LCA’s software into its ScopeX™ decarbonization workflow. This allowed the team to simulate greenhouse gas emissions across the entire project lifecycle, including production, construction, and eventual end-of-life phases.

Before a single blueprint was finalized, AECOM turned to Carbon Designer 3D to slash embodied carbon for a major Montréal infrastructure redevelopment. By modeling material quantities from basic dimensions, the firm identified critical emissions hotspots, proving that structural adjustments can be made long before detailed construction plans are drafted.
Jérémy Lagneau, an ESG and Decarbonization Advisor at AECOM, noted that the platform provided actionable data during the pre-design phase, allowing the team to test various scenarios rapidly. The analysis revealed that minor modifications—such as narrowing roadways or optimizing the configuration of overpasses—resulted in measurable environmental gains. This approach enabled the firm to pivot toward lower-carbon configurations while the project remained in its most flexible design state.
