With over 18 million Americans struggling to navigate a healthcare system overwhelmed by the lingering effects of COVID-19, a new coalition has secured $15 million in funding. The effort, spearheaded by Steve and Judy Pagliuca and Governor Maura Healey, aims to fast-track clinical trials and diagnostic testing for infection-associated illnesses.
Key donors, including Todd Park and Amy Geng, are backing a strategy focused on mechanistic trials that test combination therapies. During the event, physician-scientists Timothy Henrich and Michael Peluso highlighted that current diagnostic gaps leave many patients without clear answers or effective treatments. Through the VIPER diagnostic program, PolyBio Research Director Amy Proal is now working to validate tests that detect viral persistence, offering a potential roadmap for patients who have faced years of diagnostic uncertainty and limited care options.
