Ramaco Resources Wins $30 Million Verdict Against Chubb Subsidiaries
A federal jury in West Virginia has ordered Chubb subsidiaries, Federal Insurance Company and ACE American Insurance Company, to pay $30 million to Ramaco Resources. The verdict follows a long-running legal battle over a 2018 coal silo collapse that the insurers refused to cover under the company's existing policy.
While the jury reached a decision on these primary damages, the court has yet to determine the final amount for attorney's fees. Randall Atkins, Chairman and CEO of Ramaco Resources, stated that the verdict validates the company's long-standing position regarding the legitimacy of the initial claim. The defendants retain the right to file post-trial motions within 28 days and may pursue an appeal within 30 days of the final judgment entry.
