Talk it Out NC, an awareness project managed by the state's Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, is centering its latest outreach at the North Carolina State Fair. From October 15–25, the organization will host a booth in Safety City near Gate 10, where families can participate in interactive activities. These include wearing alcohol impairment simulation goggles to experience the physical effects of intoxication while attempting simple tasks like playing cornhole or walking in a straight line.
North Carolina initiative turns mealtime into underage drinking prevention
Five North Carolina families will receive $500 in grocery gift cards this October as part of a campaign designed to foster connection between parents and children. The Home-Cooked Conversations initiative aims to turn routine activities like grocery shopping and meal preparation into opportunities for parents to discuss alcohol and healthy life choices.

Stacy Grier, director of education and community outreach for the commission, emphasizes that meaningful dialogue does not require a formal setting. By encouraging families to use everyday moments to engage, the program seeks to provide parents with practical tools to address the dangers of underage drinking. Residents can enter the grocery giveaway through the official website until October 30, with additional entries available for those who share their family moments on social media using the campaign hashtag.
