TKO Miller Ties Investment Banking Success to Client Philanthropy

Milwaukee-based investment bank TKO Miller is launching a donor-advised fund program that incentivizes business owners to integrate philanthropy into their exit strategies. By matching client contributions with a portion of its own success fees, the firm aims to amplify charitable outcomes during company sales.

Selling a company often stands as the most significant financial event for an entrepreneur. While owners typically prioritize transaction value and tax mitigation, many seek to leave a lasting impact on their communities. This new initiative allows clients to contribute ownership interests to a donor-advised fund prior to closing, potentially unlocking tax advantages while streamlining the long-term distribution of assets.

The program distinguishes itself through a direct matching commitment. For every percentage of proceeds a client directs toward their fund, TKO Miller pledges an equal percentage of its success fee to the firm’s own charitable account. According to co-founder Tammie Miller, the initiative could generate millions for the Milwaukee area, fostering a culture of giving that persists long after the transition of business ownership is complete. Beyond immediate tax benefits, the structure offers families the flexibility to manage philanthropic legacies across generations, involving heirs in grant-making decisions without the pressure of an active merger or acquisition process.
