The new 50G-PON solution promises a fivefold increase in transmission speeds and an 80% reduction in latency compared to current XGS-PON standards. Built on a SoC architecture featuring 20 processor cores, the system handles complex packet processing for residential, enterprise, and industrial environments while maintaining support for Wi-Fi 8 and post-quantum cryptography. By embedding TOPS-level compute directly into the gateway, the hardware allows operators to deploy AI models for anomaly detection and automated fault resolution without relying solely on cloud-based processing.
Airoha Debuts 50G-PON Gateway Processor with Integrated AI Diagnostics
At the Network X 2026 exhibition in Vienna, Airoha Technology and parent company MediaTek are showcasing a 50G-PON gateway processor capable of 50+50 Gbps symmetric throughput. The platform integrates Wi-Fi 8, edge computing, and LLM-based agents to transition fixed broadband from simple connectivity to intelligent, self-healing network management.

A central feature of this rollout is the deployment of LLM-based AI agents designed to troubleshoot common connectivity issues. By utilizing chipset-specific domain expertise, these agents interpret natural language queries from users, analyze real-time telemetry, and execute remediation steps. According to MH Shieh, Executive Vice President of Airoha, this architectural shift empowers telecom operators to improve service quality by moving beyond raw speed toward a foundation for AI-native broadband services. The technology is currently shortlisted for the Outstanding Multi-Gigabit Fibre Access Innovation award at Network X.
