Viatris Inc. has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Pacira BioSciences for $36.50 per share in cash, a deal valued at $1.65 billion. The acquisition secures two high-margin, patent-protected non-opioid pain therapies, EXPAREL and ZILRETTA, as Viatris looks to expand its footprint in specialized medicine.

Pacira generated approximately $746 million in revenue over the twelve months ending June 30, 2026. By integrating these products, Viatris aims to leverage its expertise in product lifecycle management to bolster its innovative medicines business. The transaction is expected to be immediately accretive to Viatris’ financial metrics, further diversifying its portfolio alongside its existing meloxicam offerings.
