Three Generations of Community Service at Choate’s

For 68 years, the Memphis-based family business Choate’s has operated under the mantra of serving neighbors as they would their own kin. Spanning 13 presidencies, the firm has evolved from a standard service provider into a fixture of local philanthropy, prioritizing a servant mindset in every trade engagement.

The company’s commitment extends beyond routine plumbing and HVAC work, manifesting in partnerships with organizations like St. Jude, Memphis Athletic Ministries, and Best Buddies. Assistant General Manager Brian Choate emphasizes that their involvement is rarely limited to financial donations. Instead, the team frequently engages in hands-on support, whether hosting lunches for first responders or participating in local events throughout the Carnegie Square and Cooper Young districts.

Personal connection defines their outreach, particularly with Life Choices, an organization assisting mothers in challenging circumstances. This philosophy of embedded support often results in spontaneous aid, such as the full installation of an air conditioning system for a local family in crisis or treating a young superfan to an NBA game after hearing about his interest in the company’s commercials. Looking ahead, Choate’s plans to expand its legacy by establishing a technical college. The goal is to provide hands-on vocational training, pairing students with masters to ensure the next generation of tradespeople gains both technical proficiency and a commitment to the community.
