Nightpeak Energy Doubles Brazoria County Battery Capacity

The hum of new infrastructure in Brazoria County marks a shift in Texas power management as Nightpeak Energy brings the 150 MW Bocanova 2 battery project online. This expansion pushes the site’s total capacity to 300 MW, providing a critical buffer for the rapidly tightening ERCOT grid near Houston.

Bocanova 2 officially reached commercial operation on September 17, following the successful launch of its predecessor, Bocanova 1, in August 2025. By utilizing Tesla’s Megapack 2 XL systems, the site offers two hours of storage duration, designed to balance the surge in electricity demand from local data centers and industrial loads. The project secured financing through a combination of tax equity from U.S. Bank and a construction-to-term loan arranged by MUFG Bank.

Paris Hays, CEO and co-founder of Nightpeak Energy, noted that the speed at which large-scale loads are hitting the Texas grid is forcing a fundamental rethink of power infrastructure. The site now functions under a long-term offtake agreement, anchoring its role as a flexible resource for the region. Since its inception in 2022, Nightpeak has built a portfolio exceeding 1 GW of capacity, focusing on assets that bridge the gap between peak demand and grid stability.
