Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev confirmed that two vessels were targeted in the incident, resulting in one ship sinking just 30 kilometers off the coast. This escalation has drawn sharp rebukes from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who emphasized the alliance's commitment to securing the eastern flank against further maritime disruption.
For Kyiv, the stakes are existential. Before the full-scale invasion, Black Sea ports facilitated over $40 billion in annual trade. Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotsky noted that while domestic supply remains stable, the inability to move perishables to international markets threatens the country’s primary economic engine.
