Under the banner of the European Commission's AI in Science Enablers Initiative, Elsevier announced a sweeping commitment to bolster European research through 4,000 complimentary licenses for its AI-powered platforms. The pledge, unveiled at the AI in Science Summit in Dublin, aims to integrate advanced technology into clinical and academic workflows.

The package includes 1,000 licenses each for LeapSpace, ClinicalKey AI, ClinicalKey Nursing AI, and the 3D anatomy platform Complete Anatomy. Beyond software access, the publisher is dedicating an estimated €1 million annually in in-kind support and direct funding to cultivate regional talent. This investment will facilitate at least three research collaborations per year, including a partnership with the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam to establish a Centre on Hybrid Intelligence for Trustworthy Research.

Elsevier CEO Kumsal Bayazit emphasized the necessity of trusted platforms as European clinicians and researchers push the boundaries of AI integration. The initiative extends to the AIRIS project, which focuses on AI-driven hypothesis generation in biomedicine, alongside dedicated training programs for PhD candidates and postdoctoral scholars. By providing these resources, the company intends to foster an AI ecosystem that prioritizes responsible and sustainable scientific advancement across the continent.
