Proper tire maintenance serves as both a safety measure and a financial strategy. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, maintaining correct inflation levels can extend tire life by nearly 5,000 miles and improve fuel efficiency by up to 11 cents per gallon. Tom Williams, Chief Experience Officer at the retailer, noted that keeping tires in peak condition provides a practical way for families to manage rising travel costs while ensuring reliable performance for long-distance trips.
Discount Tire Offers Free Safety Inspections Before July Fourth Travel
With the Independence Day holiday approaching, Discount Tire is offering complimentary tire safety inspections at its 1,275 locations nationwide. Running from June 29 through July 4, the program coincides with National Tire Safety Week, aiming to help motorists avoid road hazards during the peak summer travel season.
To ensure vehicles remain roadworthy, technicians suggest regular maintenance intervals including tire rotations every 6,000 miles. Drivers can use the penny test—checking if Lincoln’s head remains visible within tread grooves—to gauge remaining tire life. Beyond physical inspections, motorists are encouraged to verify the DOT number on the sidewall, as rubber degradation can increase the risk of failure regardless of tread depth. For those planning replacements, the company is offering up to $80 in instant savings on select inventory between June 30 and July 9.
