The program, which launches in mid-2026, emphasizes hands-on application over abstract concepts. By utilizing proprietary simulations and scenario-based labs, educators can guide students through prompt design, AI limitations, and the critical nuances of responsible technology use. According to Katie Hoenicke, CompTIA’s chief product officer, mastering these core competencies is essential for graduates to remain competitive regardless of their specific major.

Designed as a three-credit, institution-ready course, the curriculum avoids requiring deep technical expertise, making it accessible to a broad student population. Henry Mann, senior director of product development, noted that AI fluency has become a baseline requirement for the modern workforce. To validate these skills, students must pass a final assessment to earn the AI Fundamentals CompCert credential, providing them with a tangible record of their proficiency for prospective employers. This approach ensures that institutions can offer verifiable, industry-recognized training that evolves alongside the rapidly shifting AI landscape.
