Since its launch last June, the program has become a critical lifeline for families who fall outside the strict income thresholds of traditional assistance. Vincent Davis, PG&E’s senior vice president and chief customer officer, noted that the high volume of applicants highlights the necessity of these matching funds for those managing arrears. The utility has prioritized distribution in Fresno, Kern, and San Joaquin counties, where over $12.5 million has been allocated since 2025.
PG&E Offers Final Window for Energy Bill Matching Grants
With nearly $30 million already distributed to 78,000 households, Pacific Gas and Electric Company is urging customers to apply for remaining funds under its Match My Payment program. The initiative offers a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $1,000 for low-to-moderate income residents struggling with past-due energy balances.

To qualify, households must pay at least $50 toward a balance of $100 or more. Eligibility is determined by federal income guidelines, which allow a family of four earning up to $132,000 annually to participate. This ceiling is notably higher than that of the Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help (REACH) program, which provides up to $800 in grants for those facing disconnection notices. Qualifying customers can stack these benefits for a combined total of $1,800 in relief, though all disbursements are handled on a first-come, first-served basis through the nonprofit Dollar Energy Fund. Residents are encouraged to utilize the online Savings Finder tool at pge.com/billhelp to verify their status before the current funding pool is exhausted.
