The expansion is spearheaded by Koelache Co. LLC, a group led by Houston-based entrepreneurs Don and Kat Koetting, alongside Fred and Lisa Koetting. The family connection to the region runs deep; Don Koetting’s father and grandfather were raised in Bellevue, Kentucky, just across the river from the target market. Following the first launch in early 2027, the group intends to roll out the remaining two units through 2029.
Shipley Donuts Targets Ohio Expansion with Cincinnati Franchise Deal
The Ohio River Valley is set to become the latest frontier for Shipley Donuts as the Texas-based chain signs a three-unit franchise agreement to debut in Cincinnati. The move marks the 90-year-old brand’s first entry into the Buckeye State, with the initial location slated for a 2027 opening.

Shipley CEO Flynn Dekker noted that the Koetting family’s background in commercial banking and franchise systems, which includes past work with brands like Burger King and Papa Johns, made them an ideal partner for navigating the new territory. The company aims to introduce its signature handmade glazed donuts and savory kolaches—a staple of the Texas breakfast market—to a fresh customer base, positioning the brand as a distinct alternative to existing regional offerings.
