The initiative addresses a widening skills gap highlighted by the 2026 State of Tech Talent Report, which identifies critical shortages in platform engineering, cybersecurity, and cloud computing. By bundling training directly with industry-recognized credentials, the organizations aim to reduce barriers for practitioners seeking to validate production-grade skills. The new curriculum includes tracks for the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS), and the newly launched Cloud Native Platform Engineer (CNPE) certification.
CNCF and Linux Foundation Partner with Udemy to Simplify Cloud Training
With global demand for cloud native expertise outpacing the available talent pool, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation and Linux Foundation Education are joining forces with Udemy. The partnership creates a unified, frictionless path for developers to access training and performance-based certification exams within a single, integrated platform.

Chris Aniszczyk, CTO of CNCF, noted that the primary constraint in scaling infrastructure is not technology, but human expertise. By merging Udemy’s learning environment with Linux Foundation’s performance-based exams, the collaboration allows engineers to move from initial coursework to final certification without fragmented purchasing processes. This alignment is designed to help organizations retain talent by offering clear growth pathways while ensuring developers are prepared for real-world deployment challenges.
