Stater Bros. Markets Faces Class Action Over Labor Law Violations

A new class action lawsuit filed in San Bernardino County Superior Court accuses Stater Bros. Markets of systemic labor violations, including failure to pay accurate wages and denying mandatory meal and rest periods to its employees, according to court documents filed by Blumenthal Nordrehaug Bhowmik De Blouw LLP.

The complaint, registered as Case No. CIVSB2614758, alleges the grocery chain failed to record total hours worked, specifically citing instances where staff performed duties off the clock. Beyond claims of uncompensated time, the lawsuit outlines a pattern of denied rest breaks. Plaintiffs contend that employees were frequently required to work shifts exceeding four hours without the legally mandated ten-minute rest intervals, with some shifts lasting ten hours or more without receiving the required three separate breaks.

Additional allegations focus on wage and expense practices. The firm claims Stater Bros. underpaid sick wages by calculating them at a base rate rather than the higher regular rate of pay, violating California Labor Code sections 246 and 2802. Furthermore, the suit asserts that the defendant failed to reimburse employees for necessary business expenses incurred during their duties. The Los Angeles-based firm, which specializes in employment law, represents the plaintiffs in this ongoing dispute regarding adherence to California labor standards.
