Tamron Brings 17-70mm f/2.8 Zoom to Nikon Z and Canon RF Mounts

Tamron is expanding the reach of its 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD lens, announcing that the popular APS-C standard zoom will soon be compatible with Nikon Z and Canon RF camera systems. The lens, favored for its consistent aperture, is scheduled to hit the market on July 2, 2026.

Long established as a staple for Sony and Fujifilm shooters, this fast-aperture optic provides a 35mm equivalent focal range of approximately 27.2–112mm. By maintaining a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range, the lens offers a significant performance jump over standard kit glass, catering to both video creators and still photographers who require versatility in challenging lighting conditions.

The hardware includes an RXD stepping motor designed for quiet autofocus and minimal focus breathing, paired with Tamron’s signature Vibration Control. Despite a 4.1x zoom range, the construction remains relatively compact, weighing roughly 19 ounces. The design also incorporates a 67mm filter thread, aligning it with Tamron’s broader mirrorless lens ecosystem to allow for shared use of polarizers and diffusion filters. Additional features include a moisture-resistant body, a rounded 9-blade diaphragm, and a fluorine coating on the front element to repel debris.
