Geotab Backs Federal Legislation to Curb Organized Cargo Theft
Organized criminal networks are increasingly targeting the transportation sector, prompting Geotab to formally endorse H.R. 2853, the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act. The telematics firm argues that federal coordination is now a prerequisite for protecting drivers and maintaining the integrity of the national supply chain against sophisticated, digitally-enabled fraud.
Geotab, which currently monitors approximately 6 million vehicles, has already integrated into the Freight Fraud Prevention Hub led by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association. However, the company maintains that these private initiatives require the backing of systemic public policy to be fully effective. Their strategy involves pairing legislative support with internal technologies like geofencing, AI-powered dash cameras, and driver verification tools to provide fleets with the visibility needed to identify vulnerabilities before incidents occur.
