The exhibition features a diverse array of collectibles, ranging from intricate mecha figures and metal models to plush toys and PVC designs. The presence of these manufacturers at an event widely regarded as the Oscars of Animation marks a shift in how Chinese creative output is presented on the world stage, moving from traditional ink-wash films to modern, mass-produced pop culture icons.
Dongguan Brings Art Toy Industry to Annecy Animation Festival
Under the shadow of the French Alps, the 50th Annecy International Animation Film Festival has become a stage for China’s industrial might. More than ten companies from Dongguan, the city recognized as China’s Art Toy Capital, arrived this week to showcase over 100 original creations to a global animation audience.

Dongguan maintains a dominant position in this market, hosting nearly 1,500 supporting enterprises and over 8,000 manufacturers. The scale is significant, as the region accounts for 85 percent of China’s total art toy production and manufactures one in every four animation-related products sold globally. This efficiency is driven by the industry's concentration in Shipai Town, where the entire lifecycle of a product—from initial design to final mass production—can be compressed into a 10-day window. Looking ahead, the city is scaling its infrastructure to include a 112.2-square-kilometer cultural and tourism district, designed to transition the region from a manufacturing hub into a destination for global enthusiasts.
