The project began in 2007 when musician Billy McCarthy, known as Billy Dior from the band D'Molls, started filming interviews with rock, metal, and jazz drummers. Over the next seven years, he amassed 50 hours of footage that remained largely unseen for a decade. In 2025, Pollack Films stepped in to acquire the rights, conducting 11 additional interviews and spending nine months in the editing room to complete the production.
Documentary Ferocious Drummers Set for Festival Premiere
After two decades of production, the documentary Ferocious Drummers is ready for its festival debut. The film, acquired and finalized by Pollack Films, compiles nearly 20 years of interviews with legendary musicians, offering an intimate look at the lives of the artists who keep the rhythm of rock and roll.

Featuring 41 interviews, 191 archival credits, and 130 songs, the film stands out for its unique perspective on the drummer’s craft. Producer Michael Pollack noted that the documentary offers an honest account of the music industry through the eyes of its percussionists. McCarthy himself serves as a central figure, appearing in the film across different stages of his life, from 1980s archival clips to his recent work as both an interviewer and a subject.
