Jared Fabac Targets the American Church Growth Industry

The American church pours nearly $2 billion annually into consultants and conferences, yet Pastor Jared Fabac argues these expenditures merely decorate a dying institution. In his new book, Leading Lazarus, Fabac contends that struggling congregations suffer from a terminal culture deficit rather than a simple lack of programming.

Fabac’s critique centers on the futility of programmatic fixes. He suggests that adding worship nights or outreach events to a failing organization is akin to dressing a corpse. Instead, the author advocates for a shift from superficial strategies to repeatable practices. Drawing on two decades of executive experience, Fabac developed eight specific frameworks intended to diagnose and resurrect organizational health.

His methodology was forged through the revival of One City Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. Following a period of staff instability and plummeting attendance, the church underwent a transition that prioritized cultural rebuilding over marketing campaigns. Today, the congregation operates an on-site Leadership Academy and a Clinical Counseling Center, serving as a practical case study for the principles outlined in his writing.

Released on September 6, 2026, the book is currently available through 400 retailers. To facilitate implementation, Fabac launched an eight-week digital program that guides leaders through the application of one framework per week. The author, who holds an MA in Clinical Counseling and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership, positions these tools as a direct antidote to the cycle of circular strategy meetings that characterize many modern ministries.
