The funding will bolster the Memory Disorders Clinic at AHN West Penn Hospital, a facility currently managing roughly 2,000 patient cases each year. Beyond clinical diagnostics, the investment aims to integrate a holistic care model—addressing behavioral health, social determinants of wellness, and caregiver needs—into the network’s existing infrastructure. This approach aligns with the "Living Health" strategy, which prioritizes early detection and preventative medicine over reactive treatment.

Greg Jordan, chairman of the Highmark Health Board of Directors, noted that the decision was deeply personal, citing the couple’s own experiences with family members lost to memory-related illnesses. Dr. Stephen Samples, chair of the Department of Neurology at AHN, indicated the funds will facilitate a more collaborative environment, where nurse navigators, geriatricians, and multidisciplinary clinicians can coordinate care. As the number of Americans living with dementia is projected to reach 8.5 million by 2030, the network intends to use this capital to scale its participation in federal initiatives like the GUIDE model, ensuring that specialized cognitive support becomes more accessible across the region.
