The proposed site in Conneaut is slated to produce synthetic active anode materials, with an initial output target of 10,000 tonnes per year. Graphite One aims to scale this capacity to 25,000 tonnes as the facility matures. According to COO Mike Schaffner, the transition into technical review highlights the precision of the company’s engineering and permitting efforts to date.
Graphite One Clears Regulatory Hurdle for Ohio Battery Material Plant
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has officially accepted the air permit application for Graphite One’s planned Conneaut facility, marking the start of a critical technical review phase. This development serves as a major step toward establishing a domestic supply chain for synthetic anode materials used in electric vehicle batteries.

This Ohio project operates under a non-linear development strategy, allowing it to move toward production independently of the company’s primary Graphite Creek resource in Alaska. By decoupling these workstreams, Graphite One intends to accelerate its path to revenue. If all regulatory and financing requirements are met, the company anticipates the Ohio facility will begin production by the fourth quarter of 2027, with the Alaska-based graphite mining operations projected to follow in 2029.
