ZestyAI Hits 500 Regulatory Approvals for Property Risk Models

With insurance carriers scrambling to stabilize coverage in volatile markets, ZestyAI has secured over 500 regulatory approvals across 44 states. The milestone marks a shift in how state departments of insurance view artificial intelligence, moving from skepticism toward accepting property-specific risk data in official rate and rule filings.

The approvals cover critical perils including wildfire, hail, severe storms, and water damage. By shifting from broad geographic averages to individual property assessments, the company provides insurers with granular data to justify pricing in regions where traditional models have failed. Over half of the top 100 U.S. property and casualty insurers now utilize the platform for underwriting and reinsurance strategy.

In California, the company’s wildfire model became the first AI-driven tool integrated into a carrier rate filing, a move that helped restore some capacity in a constrained market. Kumar Dhuvur, founder and chief product officer, emphasized that the company designed its models for scrutiny. Every risk score is traceable to specific property inputs, allowing regulators to audit the logic behind individual policy pricing. To maintain this momentum, the firm engages directly with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, filing models proactively to ensure transparency before they reach the market.
